New Zealand 2011-12
This gallery is a brief look at what life looked like on the fieldwork side of my 10 months in New Zealand. Our schedule for kiwi research was 2 weeks on – 2 weeks off, so every 2 weeks our crew caught a ride on Farmer Dave’s boat for the quick 15 minute ride from the mainland to our island base.
I worked for a Canadian post-doc researcher on a project studying North Island brown kiwi. The project was a joint project between Massey University and the San Diego Zoo Global. Sarah hired 2 of us volunteers, who happened to both be from the U.S. Rose and I often traveled together during our 2 weeks off, sharing the adventures of tramping (backpacking), car ownership, and birdwatching.
