The Most Beautiful Saturday of the Year

The Most Beautiful Saturday of the Year

Okay, so I know I should really be looking for wildlife field jobs or Fairbanks town jobs to apply for now, but I needed to take a break from that to celebrate last Saturday. What event took place last Saturday? How could you not know?! The Great War happened, and green prevailed. Here are some clues:

From a Detroit News article…

“The Wolverines were embarrassed, overwhelmed at times, and Devin Gardner had no chance. The Spartans sacked him seven times, and when you add up all the negative plays, the Wolverines finished with an astounding minus-48 yards rushing.”

From a Michigan State Football article…
“The Spartans’ green pants were vintage early 1950s and so was their domination of Michigan in Saturday’s 29-6 victory.”
My Spartans defeated those obnoxious maize and blue-clad boys from down the highway! That’s what happened!
And where was I while this was going on? Right here, of course, waiting for Bambi at Deer Camp.

Since I’d gone to my first Spartans football game a couple weeks earlier, I didn’t feel like an awful fan for not watching or listening.

But it was the Big Game. State had won 4 of the last 5 (grrr 2012) and has the top-rated defense in the country, but the poor Wolverines felt like they were “bullied” the last time they played in Spartan Stadium. They claimed they were coming to play and put their “little brother” back in his place.

As usual, I was nervous. My dad and another hunting friend told me I shouldn’t worry too much; they had a feeling I’d be pretty happy at the end of the game, but it’s my job to stress about my Spartans!
Fortunately, a friend in Alaska gave me a good feeling with a text that I saw once I returned to my phone after an afternoon in the blind. “oh! Sparty dominant!” sounded pretty great to me!
With that news, I could hunt more peacefully the next morning.
Why am I so anti-U of M? I just can’t take the arrogance and attitude the University of Michigan brings to everything. They’re NOT the victors , the heroes, or the champions of the west! Plus, I’m an alum of Michigan State University’s Vet Camp (2003) and most importantly, a fan of their ice cream. šŸ™‚

Yum.
Here’s just one more beautiful paragraph from The Detroit News to make the point one last time. Note that this article is from Thurs. 8Nov…
“Last I checked, Michigan was still flossing green cleat shards out of its teeth. I’m not saying Michigan State kicked its rival in unmentionable ways in that 29-6 romp. I’m saying Michigan State kicked its rival repeatedly in unmentionable ways. The Spartans enjoyed it so much, the celebration continues. State police say I-96 will remain closed through the weekend because — according to the official statement — the highway is clogged with crushed kegs, smoldering fires and, most troubling, ‘charred, melted remnants of winged headgear.'”
And so, even though Bambi still lives, last Saturday was beautiful.
